Tour Itinerary
Day 1 - Departure Flight
Evening departure from New York (JFK) Airport on-board a non-stop flight to Paris.
Day 2 - Lourdes
Early morning arrival into Paris Charles De Gaulle Airport. Meet our coach and guide for a panoramic tour of Paris and a visit to the Shrine of the Miraculous Medal on Rue du Bac. This was the site where St. Catherine Laboure was privileged with heavenly apparitions and where she received the image and message of the Miraculous Medal in 1830. Early afternoon check-in at the Montparnasse Train Station to board a high speed TGV train to Lourdes. Upon arrival in Lourdes, transfer to the welcoming Hotel Astoria Vatican for check-in and dinner. Tonight enjoy the magnificent rosary and candlelight procession.
Day 3 - Lourdes
This morning we set off to the Sanctuary of Lourdes to enjoy a viewing of a video with the story of the extraordinary events of the Lourdes Apparitions which took place in 1858. There will be time to experience the healing waters of Lourdes and participate in the beautiful ceremony of the “Water Gesture”. Afternoon walking tour in the steps of St. Bernadette to see the places connected to her life in Lourdes: the Boly Mill (her birthplace), the Cachot (where she was living at the time of the apparitions), and the Parish Church (place of her baptismal font). Evening rosary and candlelight procession.
Day 4 - Burgos
Morning free in Lourdes to make a farewell visit to the Grotto and get Lourdes water to bring home. Afternoon departure from Lourdes for Burgos, Spain. Enjoy the scenic drive along the Pyrenees mountains before crossing the frontier into Spain's Basque region and Spanish Highlands and into the ancient kingdom of Castile where Burgos is located. Upon arrival in Burgos, visit the magnificent cathedral wherein is the tomb of El Cid, champion of the 11th century Spanish Reconquista. Overnight at Hotel Cuidad de Burgos.
Day 5 - Santiago
Morning departure westward into Galicia, Spain on the Iberian Coast, a land of ancient Celtic culture. Our route will parallel the Camino Frances, the most famous pilgrim route covering 500 miles from Southwest France to Santiago de Compostela. Stop en route for a visit to the 12th-century Cathedral of Leon (famous for its stained glass windows) and the mountain-top village of O Cebreiro, a charming Celtic settlement with 1200 year old thatched roof homes and an ancient church associated with a 14th-century Eucharistic miracle. Late afternoon arrival in Santiago de Compostela, where according to an 8th century tradition, the bones of the Apostle Saint James, one of the “Sons of Thunder” and a Missionary to Iberia, were miraculously discovered in a “field of stars”. Since then, pilgrims have come from all corners of the earth to pay homage to the fisherman from Galilee! Check-in at the Hotel Monumento San Francisco located a few steps from the Cathedral of St. James (2 nights).
Day 6 - Santiago
Morning tour of the historic center of Santiago de Compostela with the highlight being the 1000-year-old Cathedral of St. James. Take in its magnificent Baroque facade and graceful Romanesque interior and with the anticipation of pilgrims throughout the ages, descend into the crypt below the main altar to stand in front of the reliquary of St. James. See the famous Botafumeiro, a 5 foot thurible (hanging 170 feet), swing almost to the roof of the transept, emitting thick clouds of incense. Free afternoon.
Day 7 - Portugal
Morning departure for Fatima, Portugal. Traveling south we will cross the border into Portugal, and pass by the coastal city of Porto, the second largest city in Portugal, known for its production of port wine. Take in a panoramic view of the city as we cross over the River Douro. Enjoy some free time in the coastal city of Averio, a real gem off the typical tourist route. Mid-afternoon arrival in Fatima, home of the shepherd children who received heavenly apparitions in 1917; Jacinta and Francisco Marto and their cousin, Lucia Santos. Check-in at our hotel near the Fatima Sanctuary (for three nights). Nightly rosary & candlelight procession at the Sanctuary.
Day 8 - Fatima
This morning take in the sacred grounds where the Apparitions of Fatima took place from May to October of 1917 and experience the Light and Peace Museum. Visit to the Sanctuary to see the Chapel of Apparitions and the Rosary Basilica (wherein are the shepherds tombs). Later this afternoon, we will visit the quaint hamlet of Aljustrel where the shepherd children lived with their families. Take in the unspoiled beauty of the fields of olive trees as we walk along a cobblestone path to Valinhos (place of the August 1917 Marian apparition) and Loca Cabeco (place of the Angel's apparitions in 1916). Also see the original homes of the shepherds and the church of their baptism. Tonight begins the events to celebrate the July 13th 1917 apparition. Join with thousands of fellow pilgrims to experience the international rosary and candlelight procession followed by evening vigil.
Day 9 - Fatima
On this day, 107 years ago, as the shepherd children were playing in the fields and tending their flock, Our Blessed Mother appeared to them for the third time. This morning join with thousands of pilgrims from around the world for the awesome Anniversary events in the Sanctuary of Fatima praying the Rosary followed by Holy Mass, Blessing of the Sick and a procession of the Pilgrim Virgin statue, as multitudes of faithful wave their handkerchiefs as a farewell tribute to Our Lady. Free afternoon to enjoy the Sanctuary of Fatima and surroundings with many shops.
Day 10 - Lisbon
Today enjoy an excursion to the Silver Coast of the Atlantic. First stop will be Batalha to visit the 14th-century Monastery of Santa Maria da Victoria, an historic national landmark attesting to the ages of faith in Portugal. Upon reaching the Atlantic, visit the fishing village of Nazare which boasts one of the highest sea cliffs in Europe. See a revered 4th century image of Our Lady and the Child Jesus, believed to have been carved by St. Luke. Lunch overlooking the Atlantic before a late afternoon return to Fatima. Tonight enjoy one last candlelight vigil and rosary on the Sanctuary square.
Day 11 - Departure
Morning departure for the Lisbon Airport to board a non-stop transatlantic flight to JFK.
