Tour Itinerary
Day 1
Departure from your home city on an overnight flight to Prague, Czech Republic with a connection.
Day 2
Late morning arrival in Prague, the capital city of the Czech Republic. Transfer to our hotel in the city center for check in and rest.
Day 3
Today enjoy a tour of Prague’s historical center taking in the most important sites including the Old Town Square, Wenceslas Square, and the Metropolitan Cathedral of St. Vitus located inside the UNESCO listed Prague Castle. Later this morning visit the lesser known Prague to see the historic Charles Bridge that crosses the Vitava River. The construction of this bridge was started in 1357 by King Charles IV. This afternoon visit Prague's most important destination for pilgrims, the Church of Our Lady Victorious to venerate the statue of the Infant of Prague. Learn about the many miracles attributed to the Infant Jesus and how devotion to Him spread throughout the world. Time permitting, enjoy a late afternoon panoramic river cruise ride on the Vitava allowing you to see this historic city from a different perspective. Overnight in Prague.
Day 4
Morning departure from Prague traveling south into the region of Bohemia to the beautiful city of Cesky Krumlov. On the way visit Svata Hora, the Czech Republic’s Marian Shine also known as Holy Mountain and dedicated to Our Lady of the Assumption. Continue on to Cesky Krumlov one of the most enchanting cities of Europe and visit the historic city center which has been designated as an official Unesco site. Enjoy a tour of the elegant old town square taking in the renaissance and baroque buildings along the meandering Vitava River and see the spectacular castle overlooking the town with amazing views. Overnight in Cesky Krumlov.
Day 5
Today we travel south crossing the border into beautiful Austria to the famous city of Salzburg. This afternoon enjoy a walking tour of the charming city of music and Mozart. Visit the Basilica and stroll along the Getreidegasse to see the house where Mozart was born and take in the many familiar sites from the classic movie, The Sound of Music, including the Benedictine Monastery founded by St Rupert in the 8th century. Overnight in Salzburg.
Day 6
This morning depart for Altotting (Bavaria’s most important Marian Shrine and place of pilgrimage for centuries) to visit the famous Marian Shrine of Our Lady of Altotting, referred to as the “Lourdes of Germany”) for the many healings that have taken place here. The Shrine has been visited by both Pope Benedict XVI and by Pope John Paul II. Also visit nearby Marktl am Inn, the birth place of Pope Benedict. See the home where he was born and the Church of St. Oswald where he was baptized. Return to Salzburg by way of the village of Traunstein where Pope Benedict lived and attended seminary. Time permitting enjoy a Traunstein beer at one of the local biergartens. Overnight in Salzburg.
Day 7
Morning departure for Oberammergau, an ancient village nestled in the Bavarian Alps. Today is our special day to celebrate the 42nd decade of performance of the Oberammergau Passion Play (a tradition started by the local inhabitants in 1633). They made a promise to re-enact the passion, death and resurrection of Christ every 10 years with the intention of being spared death by future plagues (which had ravaged Europe of centuries). Late morning arrival in Oberammergau to check into our hotel. Later this afternoon we will take our place in the Oberammergau Theater for the viewing of the final performance of the Passion Play this decade. There first part of the production begins at 2:30PM and goes until 5:30PM. During the intermission we will return to our hotel for a wonderful Bavarian dinner. The second part of the play begins at 8:30PM and finishes at 10:30PM. Overnight in Oberammergau.
Day 8
Morning departure for nearby Hohenschwangau to take a tour of the 19th century fairytale Neuschwanstein Castle, one of the numerous and yet most famous castles commissioned by King Ludwig. It is enchanting beyond words! Then we continue along the Bavaria’s Romantic Road on our way to Augsburg for overnight.
Day 9
Full day excursion to Munich to meet up with our guide for a wonderful tour. Visit the Marienplatz to see the world famous Glockenspiel Clock and the twin-towered Frauenkirche, the most familiar landmark of old Munich. See the town hall and the magnificent Boulevard Feldherrenhalle Ludwigsstrasse and the Siegestor, both created by King Ludwig in the middle of the 19th century. Return to our hotel in Augsburg for overnight and for our farewell dinner.
Day 10
Early breakfast and morning transfer to Munich Airport to board your flight back to the USA.
